Hidden behind a wall that shields villa guests from prying eyes without taking away from the beach views, the double-storey Villa LeGa is built around a central 12-meter swimming pool, complete with outdoors shower and various water features, which takes up most of the garden space. Accommodation

Accommodation at Villa LeGa comprises five air-conditioned bedrooms, two of which are positioned poolside with the other three located upstairs, each with a different colour theme within its soft furnishings, dressing areas and glamorous ensuite bathrooms. A very spacious living and dining room is situated on the ground floor.

Master Bedrooms

There are two master bedrooms at Villa LeGa (bedroom 3 and bedroom 5), both positioned on the upper floor to maximise the view and the sounds of the sea. Bedroom 3 has a timber floor and a soaring roof. Furnished with a canopied king bed and boasting a dressing area and a sitting area with cane sofas and chairs, it is blessed with a wonderful vista of the Indian Ocean and coastline stretching from the Bukit Peninsula to Canggu. The ensuite semi open-air bathroom is fitted with a single washbasin, a walk-in monsoon shower, bathtub and toilet. There is also an open-air deck at the front of the bedroom – accessed via glass doors, or from the balcony that runs alongside –furnished with all-weather rattan sofas.

Bedroom 5 is a huge room with a timber floor and soaring roof. Furnished with a king bed and featuring a sitting area, it also offers magnificent views of the ocean. There is a narrow balcony at the front furnished with two chairs. There is also a spacious dressing area and an ensuite bathroom, which is similar to the bathroom adjoining bedroom 3, but with twin washbasins. The cream walls in the bedrooms are adorned with artwork and there are some interesting local artefacts. Each room is equipped with a safe deposit box, and flat-screen satellite-channel TV and DVD player.

Bedrooms

Bedrooms 1 and 2 on the ground floor are each accessed via sliding glass doors from the pool deck. The rooms are mirror versions of one another, featuring marble floors, ensuite bathrooms and walk-in, well-lit dressing rooms. Each of these bedrooms is furnished with a king size bed draped in snowy netting, a desk and chair, bedside lamps and night tables. Each ensuite bathroom features a non-slip acid marble floor inset with patterns, twin glass washbowls, a walk-in monsoon shower, toilet, and large sunken bathtub with an open roof to one side to create an open air feel.

The slate walls, Palimanan stonework and pebbled surrounds present a multitude of textures. Bedroom 4 is positioned upstairs, and is furnished with a king bed under a soaring roof. It has a closed-in dressing area and views to the beach from a side window. The bathroom is smaller but nevertheless fitted with a standing monsoon shower over the bathtub. The cream walls in the bedrooms are adorned with artwork and there are some interesting local artefacts. Each room is equipped with a safe deposit box, and flat-screen satellite-channel TV and DVD player.

Living & Dining Area

The generously-sized living and dining room has a marble floor and folding glass doors that open to the pool deck, offering guests the choice of air-conditioned comfort (with two, wall-mounted air-conditioners) or tropical open air living. The living area is furnished with a huge, comfortable L-shaped sofa and a glass-topped coffee table, while the dining area is positioned to one side and furnished with a large dining table, which can accommodate twelve people. There is a guest washroom located off the living and dining room.

Kitchen

The open-plan feature kitchen at Villa LeGa is conveniently positioned next to the dining area, linked by a marble-topped service bar. It is fully equipped with an imported oven, three-burner hob, a microwave, and designer appliances including a toaster and espresso/cappuccinomachine. There is also a large fridge and a good selection of utensils and quality tableware. This immaculate kitchen is where the staff will prepare hearty breakfasts, and is also for the use of the guests if required. All other meals are prepared by the staff in the main service kitchen at the back of the property.

Swimming pool & garden

Surrounded by a wall, the neat, flat garden is dominated by a 12 x 4 metre swimming pool with a timber deck on three sides, furnished with sunbeds and umbrellas. The deck is partially shaded by the overhanging roof of the house. Four ancient frangipani trees drop their fragrant blossoms and there is a stone carved mural of galloping horses along one wall. The serene scene is completed with water cascades and ponds

Food and Beverages

Villa LeGa offers a dining service with groceries charged at cost. There is a suggestion menu, and guests will need to provide some money in advance so that the staff can do the grocery shopping, with receipts provided for reference. The cook can prepare anything from snacks up to four-course dinners, or other requests as required. Western meals are available, but guests are also recommended to sample some of the local Balinese dishes for a cultural experience. The cook will strive to fulfill any special dietary requirements. All beverages are charged per drink, except for wine which is charged by the bottle.

Food and Beverage Charges

Food and beverage items are charged based on grocery cost system. Guests will need to provide some money in advance and the staff will do the shopping for you and keep the receipts for your reference. Food items and beverage are charged at cost price. Spa Services

Guests at Villa LeGa can enjoy a Balinese massage (at extra cost) in the privacy of the villa or poolside within the garden. Traditional Balinese massage is a remedy that has been used by Balinese villagers for many generations to relieve muscular aches and pains and boost circulation after long days of toiling in the rice fields. Using a blend of flower oil and selected herbs, hands-on healing techniques are applied with a combination of skin rolling, gentle palm pressure, long kneading strokes, acupressure and reflexology. Massage treatments are provided by a professional outside spa therapist, and the staff are on hand to assist with appointments.

Location

Villa LeGa is located right next to the beach at Batubelig, a safe upmarket area close to Petitenget and Seminyak on Bali’s south-western coast. This is the most visited part of the island for both tourism and business purposes, and is home to some very classy properties.

Tucked away down a quiet sandy lane, the gates of the villa open to the sweeping beach, renowned for its panoramic views and world-class surf breaks, although the rip currents can make it a bit dangerous for swimming here. The sunsets are legendary and a delight to watch from the villa’s upper terrace, or from the rustic warung (eatery) beside the beach.

A wide choice of internationally-acclaimed restaurants, including the famous Ku De Ta, and La Lucciola are a 10-15 minute stroll along the beach, or alternatively just a short taxi ride away. About Villa Joss in Seminyak

Completed in August 2010, the contemporary Balinese architecture of Villa Joss features a living room and dining room pavilion, a four bedroom pavilion, an entertainment room and business centre, and an open air ‘bale’ lounge pavilion in the spacious gardens with a 16-metre swimming pool and outdoor Jacuzzi. The architect’s other work can be seen in some of Seminyak’s finest venues including Ku De Ta. Villa Joss is named after the owner’s daughter.

The fine art traditions of Bali have been highlighted with care in Villa Joss. Upon entering the main gate, guests are greeted by a stone relief carving of Balinese Gamelan musicians which dates back to the Majapahit Kingdom’s retreat from Java to Bali in the 1500′s.

The original carving is found in one of Bali’s oldest temples, Pura Dalem in Desa Singepadu Tengah, and was reproduced at Villa Joss by a family of artisans from Batu Bulan, the most famous stone-carving village in Bali. The gorgeous entrance to Villa Joss involves a covered walkway bordered by lotus ponds with Koi fish; all draped in a hanging garden of green vines leading up to a serene seated stone Buddha set against a cascading waterfall. The bedrooms and living spaces of the 4 bedroom Villa Joss showcase beautiful fine art paintings and limited-edition litho prints by some of Indonesia’s best-known artists. Each bathroom features a stone relief carving detailing different aspects of the main temple carving inside the main gate.

The walled garden and graceful interiors offer an abundance of space, natural light and separate places to relax. Children can enjoy a BOSE surround sound movie on the 48″ flat screen TV in the entertainment pavilion while one group of adults enjoy some reading in the living room, and another group of adults lounge, surf the internet or watch sports on the 45″ flat screen TV in the garden ‘bale’. The owners have made every effort to employ ‘Green Friendly’ technologies in the construction of Villa Joss including low energy lighting and a combination of solar and low energy convection water heating systems. Similarly, with the exception of certain high end imported fittings and equipment that were not available in Indonesia, every effort was made to use local materials and craftsmen. Master Bedroom Suite

The Master Bedroom Suite is located on ground level with sliding glass doors opening onto a covered terrace beside the swimming pool. It is accented in green and gold with a warm teakwood floor and a large bright painting by Made Gunawan of the Elephant God – Ganesh – surrounded by elfish characters dancing and playing. This spacious bedroom is furnished with a king-size ornately hand carved four poster bed with white shear curtains, copper bedside lamps and a 42” satellite-channel TV positioned on a matching cabinet. There is a spacious seat at the foot of the bed and a teak cabinet dressing area with plenty of hanging space.

Joss Bedroom Suite

The Joss Bedroom Suite also sits on the ground level with a teak wood floor and sliding glass doors opening onto a covered terrace beside the swimming pool. The room presents a fun and flamboyant colour scheme with a red lacquered cabinet, matching red lamps and the striking ‘Made Pejeng’ oil painting by the renowned artist Krijono. It features a hand carved four-poster bed draped in white shear curtains – and pink shears are available upon request to thrill any princesses staying in the Joss Bedroom Suite! There is a cushioned bench at the foot of the bed, a 42” satellite-channel TV and a teak cabinet dressing area with plenty of hanging space.

Mount Agung Suite

The Mount Agung Suite is the upstairs master, with a teakwood floor, a green theme, and sliding glass doors that open onto a delightful shared balcony offering big sky views of Bali’s carefree kites flying over the treetops. The section of balcony immediately outside the bedroom is furnished with a table and four chairs, making it a lovely spot for breakfast. The room has a king-size bed with matching cushioned bench, side tables with white woven aluminium bedside lamps and is equipped with a 42” satellite-channel TV. The “Odalan” oil painting on the wall by Atjeng wall features a colourful Balinese beachside ceremony – much like those guests can enjoy during their stay in Bali. There is also a large dressing area with plenty of hanging space.

Batubelig Suite

The Batu Belig Suite is also located upstairs, accented in gold and copper, with a teak wood floor and sliding glass doors that open onto the shared balcony. The balcony is furnished with a comfy upholstered sofa and chairs, and offers views of the greenery and rooftops of Batu Belig village. This bedroom offers the facility of twin beds (which alternatively can be joined with a specially designed top mattress) and a 42” satellite-channel TV positioned on a matching dark wood cabinet. The “Ke Pura” oil painting by Maria Tjui features a beautiful Balinese temple ceremony. There is also a large dressing area with plenty of hanging space.

Ensuite Bathroom

All four spacious ensuite bathrooms are fashioned in non-slip marble floors with matching polished marble walls. All are fitted with walk-in monsoon showers, large washbasins on polished black granite vanity units (twin washbasins on the ground floor) and large format toilets. Each of the two downstairs bathrooms feature a spacious indoor section with floor to ceiling glass walls looking out to a private outdoor garden shower area. Each of the downstairs bathrooms also feature a huge bathtub carved out of a solid block of marble, as well as two showers – one indoors with views of the private garden, and one shower under the sky in the open-air garden courtyard with high walls for privacy and a pebbled floor planted with heliconias and giant taro.

Living Area, Swimming Pool & Jacuzzi

The air-conditioned living and dining pavilion is framed in a soaring timber-lined roof with beautiful exposed beams and exquisite natural woodwork, three ceiling fans, a marble floor and folding wood framed glass doors on three sides that can be opened to invite the garden indoors. The room is furnished with a massive deeply cushioned leather sofa, two matching leather armchairs and a stainless steel arched reading lamp. On the opposite side is a 3.6 metre dining table for ten which is lit by elegant green glass and cast aluminium pendant lamps. The table is made of teak recycled from old buildings in Java along with the teak and black leather strap dining room chairs. The ambiance of the living and dining pavilion is enhanced by the BOSE sound system.

The garden has a 16m x 4m metre swimming pool with a non-slip marble pool deck embellished with big pots of lotuses. There is a cool Jacuzzi in a separate section at one end of the pool with a recycled teak table and umbrella in the middle of the Jacuzzi for afternoon drinks and music. The swimming pool features a spectacular 500-kilo reclining Buddha statue carved in Java from hard granite river stone. The Buddha appears to be floating above the water and rests against a waterfall wall of Indian slate.

‘Bale’ Pavilion in Garden

Positioned in a quiet spot on the far side of the swimming pool is a rectangular open-sided ‘bale’ pavilion with BOSE sound system. One side of the ‘bale’ is dedicated to alfresco dining and furnished with another 3.6 metre recycled teak dining table with white metal legs and matching white leather strap recycled teak chairs. The other side is designed for relaxing on a large U-shaped cushioned sitting and sleeping area. A 45” flat screen TV is positioned up on high, making this the perfect spot to laze the afternoon away while watching a live sports broadcast or romantic movie, or enjoying the WiFi internet connection. The bale is also a great place to enjoy a barbeque prepared by the chef. The gas barbeque grill, and cold drinks fridge, is housed in a special unit close by the ‘bale’.

Bar & Kitchen

There are two fully equipped kitchens at Villa Joss, one is the service kitchen and domain of the chef and assistant cook, hidden out of sight at the back, and the other is an open plan ‘show’ kitchen incorporated within the living and dining pavilion. Fashioned in polished black granite with splashes of iridescent blue, gold-&-silver-streaked slate and teak cabinetry, this feature kitchen is equipped with a large two-door fridge, gas hob, cooker extractor hood, espresso machine and other imported appliances. It features a wide island bar, which is lit by green glass and cast aluminium pendant lamps, clad in teak and furnished with three unique handcrafted high stools.

Entertainment Room & Business Centre

The air-conditioned multipurpose room features a high open ceiling with beautiful exposed beams and natural woodwork, a BOSE surround sound home theatre, play area for children and business centre. It is finished with a polished teak wood floor, a trio of blue hand-blown glass lanterns, and folding wood framed glass doors. One half of the room is fitted with an L-shaped built-in recycled teak wood desk that runs along two walls, equipped with plenty of electricity sockets so that guests can plug in their laptop computers and make use of the WiFi internet connection. The other side of this spacious room is furnished with a large comfortable L-shaped sofa and a long floor to ceiling shelf unit full of magazines, books and local artefacts. • One Chef and One Assistant Cook, Villa Joss is proud to have an excellent Chef trained in local & international cuisine who works with a capable assistant cook. The Chef takes personal responsibility for market shopping to ensure the freshest and best quality produce, meats and seafood.
• Two Personal Butlers, the butlers work in shifts to provide a personal butler service including Food & Beverage as well as accommodating all other guest needs and requests.
• Two Attendants, the attendants work in shifts to attend to all housekeeping and laundry services. They also work cooperatively with the Butlers to serve guests of Villa Joss. The attendants perform the daily offerings throughout the villa in keeping with Balinese Hindu tradition.
• One Gardener & Pool Attendant, the friendly gardener works discreetly to maintain the beautiful gardens and to maintain and test the pool daily without disturbing the guests.

This three-bedroom Villa at Villa Vitodi is entered via an impressive hand-carved Balinese gate. Villa located in Oberoi, Seminyak. Stepping stones lead across a smooth lawn towards a small ornamental pond flanked by bulrushes. This rests in front of a Balinese Hindu feature known as the ‘aling aling, a short screen wall designed to protect the property from troublesome and malign influences, because evil spirits have great difficulty in turning corners. Guests will now find themselves in a walled courtyard garden boasting a charming, deeply cushioned relaxation pavilion known as a ‘balé bengong’ beside an enticing 8 x 2.5 metre lap pool. The garden is planted with heliconia and a sweet scented frangipani tree.

The two large air-conditioned upstairs bedrooms are mirror images of each other; each is furnished with a four poster queen size bed with muslin drapes, a dressing table, mirror, bedside tables and lamps, TV and DVD player. Each bedroom is complemented by a dressing area and en-suite bathroom. The dressing areas are equipped with hairdryer and plenty of storage space, and the stylish adjoining bathrooms each have a shower with a terrazzo stand, toilet and washbasin above a non-slip floor.

The villa is characterised by broad white Palimanan stone pillars and thick walls, and the sunny open living area is equipped with a stereo music system and tastefully adorned with local artefacts. Contemporary furnishings include daybeds accessorised with colourful cushions and a low table; ceiling fans and bamboo roller blinds are fitted for the comfort of the guests.

The main building, with its tiled roof, is located adjacent to the living pavilion and is also open to the garden. This building features a sparkling grey terrazzo floor and houses an open plan dining area furnished with a chunky dining table with ten chairs.

Immediately next to this area is a self-contained kitchen, complete with gas hob, microwave and fridge, and flanked by a serving counter with a large hatch. The large air-conditioned master bedroom is located downstairs and boasts a warm parquet floor, a four-poster queen size bed swathed in muslin drapes, a dressing table, mirror, bedside tables and lamps, and satellite TV and DVD player. The room is light and airy with windows on two sides, and the style is simple and uncluttered. The dressing area, conveniently positioned between the bedroom and the en-suite bathroom, is equipped with hairdryer and safe deposit box, and offers plenty of storage space.

The adjoining open-air bathroom features a sunken terrazzo bathtub, a shower with a pebbled floor, a toilet and a washbasin. An additional guest washroom and toilet is also located on the ground floor with its own private garden, accented by pebbles and cascading plants. A parquet staircase leads up to a wide balcony, with a wooden balustrade, which runs the full length of the building and overlooks the garden.

Coco Groove is a privately owned 3 bedroom modern minimalist style villa located in the heart of Seminyak just behind the renowned Oberoi Hotel in Bali and just minutes away from the beach. It will take you only around 20 minutes to travel from ad to the international airport, a couple of minutes to the tourist Mecca of Legian/Kuta and only 20 minutes from the island’s pre-eminent signature golf course, the Nirwana Bali Golf Course. The golf course perhaps boasts the most beautiful location of any golf course in the world and has recently been voted one of world’s top ten golf courses.

In a developing area of Bali in Seminyak, in the south of the island, the Singaporean owner of a plot of land wanted a holiday property that was open, convenient to live in, and yet maintained some references to traditional Balinese dwellings (though not at all overtly). The site was originally virgin paddy fields, and though close to the sea, there was no possibility of a view from the single-storey structure, which was also what the client requested.

Architect Ian Chee has designed a complex that creates entirely its own habitat within the surrounding walls. Chee’s intention was to re-interpret the traditional Balinese layout of a dwelling. In this, there is a series of small construction grouped in the same compound, with a minimum of five areas: entrance, bedroom kitchen, bathroom and granary.

The precise layout varies according to status and caste, and follows rules laid down in treatises, some going back to the fifteenth century. Masonry platforms are traditional, as is the interpenetration of interior and exterior space. One of the bedrooms seen from its small courtyard garden, planted with Bird of Paradise plants (Strelitzia reginae). The garden, which can be entered through sliding glass doors, connects the bedroom to the bathroom. The same bedroom is seen from its entrance. A full-height sliding door that can open the room fully to the rest of the compound. The living shelter is in the background. The bathroom of another bedroom seen from its courtyard garden, open-air bathing is another Balinese tradition that suits the climate. A mirror running the entire width of the bathroom enhances its open, natural aspect.

The bedrooms and the TV/Study room are fully air-conditioned. The master bedroom offers a Chinese style antique bed with en-suite bathroom and the both guest rooms offer double bed bedrooms with private bathrooms. All rooms have a view to towards the pool and the large open lawn shaded with tall swaying coconut trees. Coco Groove has its own in-ground pool tiled with beautiful natural green color stone tiles. Behind the pool overlooking the entire property is a Balinese bale just perfect for those afternoon naps. Alternatively you can just laze beside the pool on one of the outdoor lounges.

This house, completed in 2004 and with a total built-up area of 550 square meters, was conceived as a series of bales (the Balinese version of a gazebo) linked by a covered walkway and orientated to take advantage of the prevailing winds, using large cantilevered overhangs and plated pergolas for shade and protection from rain

By adapting the arrangement of a traditional Bali home, the architect was able to satisfy the client’s wish to keep the guest quarters separate, and these were located in a line extending from the corner housing the kitchen, service quarters and garage. The living shelter followed by the master room extends from this corner at a right angle, while the house temple was placed facing the sacred mountain Gunung Agung in the opposite corner of the compound.

One entire wall of the compound is lined by plantings of small trees. The water connects the living area at firth with the bathrooms that adjoin the master and second bedrooms. The focus of the house is the living shelter, roofed but open on three sides. In the centre of this is the sunken seating area, into which steps lead down from two opposite corner.

Early morning sunlight streams into the living shelter (overleaf), with its dining table at left. The area faces out on to the lawn, swimming pool and a small bale in traditional style, thatched with alang-alang grass. As the architect comments, ‘In material terms, we chose a palette of simple finishes’. And in the bathrooms the combination is of river pebbles set in one wall, wood, concrete and polished metal. A borderless mirror, projecting slightly to accommodate concealed lighting behind, gives a modern contrast to the pebbles.

Woven bamboo matting in various forms is used for cupboards and screens. A bathroom door-handle is cast in metal from one of the river pebbles used throughout the house. A dressing-room mirror, designed by the architect, is set in the neck of a tailor’s dummy imprint of bamboo matting has been left in a concrete ceiling from the formwork.

Coco Groove is fully serviced with its own staff, including a cook, a maid, gardener, and night time security staff. The staff is at your call for the entire duration of your stay and will cater to your every need.
